Aloha and welcome to your dream getaway in Honokowai. If you’ve been searching for the quintessential Maui experience—where the scent of salt air meets the fragrance of blooming plumeria—look no further than Hale Ono Loa. Enjoy direct sunset and whale watching views from your lanai!
Translated from Hawaiian, Hale Ono Loa means "House of Good Living." This isn’t just a name; it’s a philosophy. Nestled on the breathtaking Kaanapali Coast in the charming neighborhood of Honokowai, our third-floor retreat offers a front-row seat to the majesty of the Pacific Ocean. Whether you are here for a romantic escape, a small family vacation, or a solo soul-searching journey, this unit provides the comfort of home with the luxury of direct oceanfront living.
The Unbeatable Location: West Maui at Its Best
Honokowai is the hidden gem of West Maui. Located just north of the bustling Kaanapali Beach Resort area and south of the upscale Kapalua coast, it offers a "quiet pace" that is increasingly hard to find.
Proximity to Everything: We are conveniently located just 5 minutes from the smaller Kapalua Airport (JHM), making island hopping a breeze. If you are flying into Kahului (OGG), the scenic 45-to-60-minute drive across the island is the perfect introduction to Maui’s diverse landscapes.
The Neighborhood: Our condo is located on the Lower Honoapiilani Rd. This road is famous for its local feel. Within a mile, you’ll find a full-service grocery store for all your supplies. Even closer, within easy walking distance Pao Bakery and Maui-grown coffee.
Dining and Culture: Don't miss a meal at the nearby Duke’s Beach House for a true taste of island hospitality or breakfast at the Sunset House in Napili. In addition, there are many Luaus that will top off your dining and cultural experience.
The Property: A Tropical Sanctuary
Hale Ono Loa is a well-maintained, four-story building that underwent an extensive $3 million renovation to ensure modern structural integrity and aesthetic beauty.
The Grounds
As you walk through the property, you are surrounded by the lush greenery that defines Hawaii. The grounds are meticulously landscaped with:
Coconut Palms: Swaying gently in the trade winds.
Tropical Fruit Trees: Experience the vibrant colors and scents of the islands right outside your door.
Exotic Flora: Bird of paradise, hibiscus, and ti leaves create a private, garden-like atmosphere.
Oceanfront Amenities
The crown jewel of the property is the oceanfront sun deck and pool area and swim out steps to the reef.
The Pool: A sparkling, clean swimming pool offers a refreshing break from the Maui sun.
Elevated Sun Decks: These decks are positioned just feet from the water’s edge. This is the ultimate spot for sunbathing, sunsets or reading a book while the waves crash below.
Wildlife Watching: Because of the healthy coral reef directly in front of the building, you don't even need to leave the property to see Green Sea Turtles (Honu) and the occasional Hawaiian Monk Seal basking on the rocks.
Community BBQs: Two free gas barbecues are available for guest use. Imagine grilling fresh-caught Mahi-Mahi while watching the sun dip below the horizon between the islands of Molokai and Lanai.
Inside: Luxury Meets Comfort
Our unit is located on the third floor, easily accessible via the building’s elevator—no need to worry about lugging heavy suitcases up the stairs.
The Living Space
This one-bedroom unit has been fully remodeled to maximize space, light, and the "Aloha spirit."
Modern Decor: The interior features clean lines and island-inspired accents.
The View: The westerly orientation of the unit is its greatest asset. From the moment you wake up, you are greeted by the deep blue of the Pacific.
Sleeping Capacity: The unit comfortably sleeps four guests. The master bedroom features a King-sized bed, while the living area includes a Queen sleeper sofa, perfect for children or additional guests.
The Fully Equipped Kitchen
While vacation dining is at your fingertips, our kitchen is fully equiped.
Appliances: Full-sized refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, and stove/oven.
Small Extras: A coffee maker for those early Hawaiian mornings and a blender for your tropical smoothies also included is an Airfryer and crock pot.
Supplies: We provide all the cookware, dishes, and utensils you need. Simply stop by the local market and you’re ready to cook!
Amenities: A Welcome Gift bag is waiting for you which will include shower soap, new kitchen sponge, 1 roll of paper towels, 2 rolls of TP, coffee for the first pot and treats from the owners.
The Private Lanai
This is where you will spend 90% of your time. Our large, covered private lanai serves as an outdoor living room. It is the perfect vantage point for:
Sunsets: Every evening offers a unique masterpiece of orange, pink, and purple hues.
Whale Watching: During whale season (December–April), you can see Humpback whales breaching and tail-slapping from the comfort of your patio furniture.
Dining Al Fresco: There is no better restaurant view on the island than your own lanai.
Adventure Ready: Amenities and Gear
We want your stay to be as stress-free as possible. That’s why we provide the essentials you need for a day at the beach:
Beach Gear: We have beach chairs, towels, boogie boards, and coolers ready for your use.
Snorkel Gear: Limited snorkel gear is provided so you can explore the reef right in front of the building.
Laundry: No need to overpack! There are clean washer and dryer, facilities conveniently located on the 2nd and 3rd floors. Cell phone or ATM needed to operate.
Note: While we provide linens and towels, we ask that guests bring their own personal toiletries.
Why Choose Hale Ono Loa?
There are many places to stay on Maui, but few offer the combination of direct oceanfront views, a quiet neighborhood, and modern amenities at an affordable price point.
Value: You get the amenities of a high-end resort (pool, BBQ, ocean access) without the "resort fees" or the crowds.
Authenticity: Staying in Honokowai allows you to live like a local. You can walk to the farmers market, chat with neighbors, and enjoy a pace of life that is truly "Maui Time."
The West Wing Advantage: Our location in the west wing of the building provides some of the best angles for viewing the neighboring islands of Molokai and Lanai.
Planning Your Stay: Tips for Guests
Transportation: We provide one free parking space. While walkable, we recommend a rental car to explore the Road to Hana or the summit of Haleakala. Bus stop is a couple condo buildings over.
Weather: The West Side is known for its sunshine and cooling trade winds. Our unit is situated to catch those trade winds, keeping you cool and comfortable. Ceiling fans are located on the lanai, and both LR and BR, additionally, there are 2 portable fans as needed.
Hale Ono Loa is more than just a place to sleep; it’s the backdrop for the memories you’ll cherish for a lifetime. Whether it’s your first time to the islands or your fiftieth, the "House of Good Living" is waiting to welcome you home.

Getting around
Arrival & Getting Around: Your Stress-Free Guide
Getting to your "House of Good Living" is simple, whether you are arriving on a major carrier or a quick inter-island hopper. Here is everything you need to know about airport distances, car rentals, and parking.
Airport Proximity
Maui has two main airports that serve the West Side. Depending on your airline, you will land at one of the following:
Kahului Airport (OGG): This is the island's primary international airport.
Distance: Approximately 29–34 miles.
Drive Time: 45 to 60 minutes, depending on traffic. The drive is incredibly scenic, taking you along the coastline of the Pali (cliffs) with beautiful ocean views.
Kapalua Airport (JHM): A smaller, regional airport perfect for inter-island flights from Honolulu or Kauai.
Distance: Approximately 1.5 miles.
Drive Time: A quick 3 to 5-minute drive. It’s practically in your backyard!
Car Rentals & Transport
While our neighborhood is walkable, we highly recommend a rental car to explore the majestic sights of the Road to Hana or the summit of Haleakala.
At Kahului (OGG): All major rental brands (Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Sixt, etc.) are located at the conrac facility, accessible by a quick, free tram ride from the baggage claim.
At Kapalua (JHM): There are no rental counters physically inside this tiny airport. However, many major companies operate from off-site facilities nearby. Pro Tip: Call your rental agency in advance to arrange a shuttle pick-up from the JHM terminal.
Rideshare & Taxis: Both Uber and Lyft operate on Maui. A one-way trip from Kahului (OGG) to Honokowai typically ranges from $80–$120 depending on the time of day. Bus stop a couple condos over.
Parking at Hale Ono Loa
Parking in West Maui can be a challenge, but not here! We’ve got you covered:
Free Reserved Parking: Your booking includes one free, designated parking space. You won’t have to worry about finding a spot or paying daily "resort parking" fees, which can run $40+ per night at nearby hotels.
Parking Permit: Upon arrival, you will receive a parking permit (usually via the resident manager or inside the unit). Please ensure this is displayed as directed to avoid any towing issues.
No Resort Fees: Unlike the big hotels in Kaanapali, Hale Ono Loa does not charge any hidden resort or parking fees. What you see is what you pay!
Quick Travel Tips
Stock Up Early: If you are driving in from Kahului (OGG), consider stopping at Costco, Target, or Walmart in Kahului to stock up on bulk groceries before heading to the West Side.
The Scenic Route: If you arrive during the day, keep your eyes on the ocean as you drive through the "Pali" tunnel—during winter months, you can often see whales breaching from the road!
