Bordering the vast trails and protected wilderness of Forest Park, this peaceful forest setting offers sweeping valley and Coast Range views and the feeling of a secluded mountain cabin—yet you’re only minutes from downtown Portland, NW 23rd, the Pearl District, and some of the city’s most beloved restaurants, breweries, and cafés. Whether you're planning a restorative getaway, a remote work escape, or a quiet base for exploring Portland’s outdoors and culture, the Hideaway invites you to unwind, recharge, and experience the city from above it all. Guests have direct access to the nearby Wildwood Trail system and are perfectly positioned for hiking, trail running, bird watching, and scenic drives through Portland’s iconic West Hills. Popular nearby destinations include Pittock Mansion, Washington Park, the International Rose Test Garden, and the shops and dining along Northwest 23rd Avenue. Despite the wooded seclusion, you remain conveniently connected to everything Portland has to offer. Inside, the main living and dining area is lined with cedar milled from the property in the 1970s, blending natural character with a mid-century vibe and updated for comfort and functionality. Two large leather sofas and a TV create a cozy setting for relaxing after a day out, while the spacious dining area features a rustic farmhouse table ideal for meals, games, or spreading out with a laptop. Well suited for remote work or an extended stay, the Hideaway includes a fully outfitted workspace with a desk, ergonomic chair, extra monitor, and office supplies, with printer access available upon request. The generous dining table in the main living area also serves as an additional work surface when needed. The bedroom offers a queen bed, clothes storage, and a distinctive tribal/primitive art motif, creating a comfortable and restful retreat. The full bathroom includes a tub/shower combination. The kitchenette features reclaimed wood countertops and stainless appliances, including a full refrigerator, dishwasher, and microwave. Step outside to your private deck, where a café table and chairs, bench seating, and a wooden swing (available during the summer) provide space to linger and take in the forested surroundings. A large hot tub reserved exclusively for Hideaway guests is located on the deck just outside the apartment door, offering a relaxing soak beneath the trees. Access to the apartment requires following a path and stone stairs around the house and down the hill to the lower level entrance. Guests have full and sole access to the apartment and all designated guest areas. This rental is a private apartment. The owners strive to care for the property and surrounding environment through sustainable practices, including recycling and composting and using environmentally responsible plant and pest control products. No pet fee - dogs only in the home - no cats, birds or other. We strongly encourage all guests to purchase travel insurance to protect against unexpected cancellations, travel disruptions, illness, weather events, or other unforeseen circumstances. Just a quarter mile away, Forest Park spans more than 5,100 acres, making it one of the largest urban forests in the country. Its 40-mile Wildwood Trail loop invites you to hike, run, bike, or simply wander beneath towering trees. A short drive takes you across the iconic St. Johns Bridge into the St. Johns neighborhood, or down into the heart of downtown. The Hideaway also serves as an ideal home base for exploring the Pacific Northwest’s most celebrated landscapes, including the dramatic Columbia River Gorge and Multnomah Falls, the slopes of Mount Hood and historic Timberline Lodge, and the Oregon coast with its expansive sandy beaches and charming seaside towns. Because the home is located along Skyline Boulevard in the West Hills, a car is generally recommended for getting around, whether you're heading into downtown Portland, crossing the St. Johns Bridge, or exploring the surrounding region. While most guests choose to drive, rideshare services do operate in the area and can be used for trips into the city or to nearby neighborhoods. For outdoor enthusiasts, trailheads into Forest Park are close by, allowing you to step directly into miles of wooded trails without needing to venture far by car.
