Tropical Co-habitants: Geckos, harmless insects, and local fauna are a natural part of Hawaii’s delicate ecosystem. While the home is professionally co-managed with regular pest control maintenance, an occasional outdoor bug may wander inside to say hello. Keeping doors closed helps keep them out! Island Weather & Utilities: The lush green beauty of the Hilo side comes from our beautiful tropical weather. Occasionally, heavy island rains or high winds can cause brief, temporary utility or power interruptions. We recommend keeping your devices charged and viewing it as the perfect excuse to unplug, gather on the lanai, and enjoy the tranquil sounds of the jungle.

Getting around
Arriving at Hilo International Airport (ITO) is straightforward and stress-free. From the moment you clear the terminal, you are only about 20 minutes away from your private 7-bedroom sanctuary. Transportation Options Turo (Highly Recommended): For large groups of 14, Turo is often the best way to secure passenger vans or multiple large SUVs. Most Hilo Turo hosts offer contactless pickup in the main airport parking lot. You simply walk from baggage claim to your vehicle, grab the keys from the lockbox, and drive away—no shuttle lines required. On-Site Car Rentals: Major agencies (Alamo, Enterprise, Hertz) are located directly across the street from the terminal. It is a very short walk from the baggage claim area. Rideshare: Uber and Lyft are available at ITO. If you have a group of 14, you will need to book 3–4 "XL" vehicles to accommodate both passengers and luggage. The Drive (20 Minutes) Exit the Airport: Turn Left onto Kanoelehua Ave (Highway 11). The Shopping District: You will drive south for about 10–12 minutes. This stretch of road contains all the major Hilo hubs (Target, Walmart, Safeway). The Keaʻau Split: Stay in the left lanes to merge onto Highway 130 (follow signs for Pāhoa). The Neighborhood: After about 5 minutes on Highway 130, you will turn into the residential area leading to 31st Ave. The estate is tucked back from the main road for maximum privacy. Gas Stations & Essentials Closest Gas: There are several gas stations (Chevron and Texaco) located in the Keaʻau Shopping Center, just 8 minutes from the house. Pro Tip: If you are low on fuel after exploring the Volcano, always fill up in Keaʻau before heading back to the house, as there are no stations in the immediate residential blocks. First Stop: Since you have a group of 14, we recommend stopping at KTA Super Stores or Safeway on your way from the airport. It is much easier to load up on groceries before you get settled in. Getting Around Vehicle Requirement: A rental car is essential. The Big Island is vast, and public transportation is limited. Parking at the House: You have plenty of room. The estate features a massive paved driveway that can easily accommodate 5 to 6 large vehicles. You won't have to worry about street parking or shuffling cars. Road Quality: The drive from the airport to 31st Ave is entirely on paved, well-maintained highways and residential streets. Any standard vehicle (Sedan, Minivan, or SUV) will have no trouble reaching the property.
