Step into a little piece of Texas Gulf Coast history at this charming 2-bedroom coastal home in Surfside Beach on Follets Island, just minutes from the beach. Elevated on piers to take advantage of the coastal setting, the home offers beautiful views, abundant natural light, and a covered deck that may quickly become your favorite place to watch the sunset.
The home also comes with a story. According to local history passed down over the years, the original shiplap structure dates back to the 1800s, when it was located near the mouth of the Brazos River and used to help flag ships traveling in and out of the river. When the mouth of the Brazos was later relocated and the ship channel widened, the structure was moved to its current location and eventually transformed into the unique coastal home you see today.
Inside, the main living spaces are open and welcoming, making it easy for everyone to spend time together. Cook dinner in the kitchen, settle in for a movie, bring out the games, or simply relax after a day at the beach. Large windows throughout the home fill the space with natural light and add to its easygoing coastal feel.
Just off the living room is a cozybunk room with two twin beds. It's a fun, tucked-away space that's especially great for kids or friends traveling together. Next door is a full bathroom with a shower, along with a convenient stacked washer and dryer.
At the opposite end of the living area, the primary suite features a king bed, plenty of windows, an ensuite bathroom, and direct access to the covered deck.
The covered deck
This is where you'll want to linger. Because the home is elevated, the deck catches wonderful coastal views and breezes while giving you a front-row seat for the evening sky. Grab a drink, settle into a chair, and watch the colors change as the sun goes down.

About the neighborhood
Quiet, residential neighborhood located towards the back of the island next to the ship channel with views of the ocean, ship channel and Intracoastal canal.
This historic house is only steps away from a museum (located in historic city hall which was once used by the Coast Gaurds), a replica fort of Fort Velasco, a monument where The Treaties of Velasco were signed, a walking trail (Butterfly Trail), and only blocks away from Pedestrian Beach, splash pad, and covered play ground by the jetty.
A public boat ramp is located just a few minutes away.
Northwest of the house is a wonderdul marsh where multitudes of coastal birds can be seen.
If you decide to trade sand for green, there are two 18-hole golf courses within 20-25 minutes. One located in Freeport, Freeport Golf Course, and another in Lake Jackson, The Wilderness.

Getting around
You will see a lot of golf carts tooling around the island, which is an ideal way to navigate this small island (golf cart rentals are abundant). Easy walking to just about anything. Cars and golf carts are allowed on the beach with the exception of Pedestrian Beach. Golf carts are not allowed on the main street, Ft Velsaco, but side streets are adequate enough that is not an issue. There is a parking fee for the beach in Surfside, however, further east is County Beach where parking is free.
At the house, parking is under the house. Two parking bays can easily hold four cars (two parking tandem). There no parking at the third bay. There is also a large concrete pad, if needed,to park.
