About the neighborhood
Kapaa & The Coconut Coast
Located along Kauai's sunny East Shore, Kapaa is a walkable, central beach community known for its relaxed atmosphere, oceanfront paths, and open-air dining. Staying at Islander on the Beach places you in one of the most accessible locations on the island, allowing you to walk to shops, restaurants, and beachside spots without needing to get in your car every time you leave the condo.
Lava Lava Beach Club: Located right down the shoreline (a short, scenic walk along the beach path), Lava Lava Beach Club is Kauai's premier "toes-in-the-sand" dining venue. Enjoy fresh island seafood, tropical cocktails, and live daily music with front-row views of the Pacific Ocean.
Poolside Resort Tiki Bar: For a relaxed drink closer to home, step down to the on-site poolside Tiki Bar located directly on the resort grounds. It is an ideal spot for an afternoon mai tai or a cold local craft beer without leaving the property grounds.
Coconut Marketplace: Situated immediately adjacent to the resort, this open-air marketplace features local coffee shops, juice bars, casual eateries, boutique shops, a farmers market, and live Hawaiian entertainment.
Waipouli Beach Access: Direct beachfront access allows you to step straight onto the sand for morning walks, watching sunrise over the ocean, or spotting humpback whales offshore during winter months.
Ke Ala Hele Makalae (Kauai Coastal Path): The paved multi-use oceanfront path passes directly alongside the resort. It offers miles of continuous walking, running, or cruiser bike riding along the Kapaa coastline into historic downtown Kapaa.
Central Island Hub: Positioned 15 minutes north of Lihue Airport (LIH), this location cuts down driving times for day trips to both the North Shore (Hanalei) and the South Shore (Poipu).

Getting around
Islander on the Beach is located along Kauaʻi's East Shore (the Coconut Coast) in Kapaʻa. Because of Kapaʻa's central placement halfway between the North Shore (Hanalei/Princeville) and the South Shore (Poʻipū/Waimea), staying here drastically minimizes daily driving times to major island attractions.
Car Rentals & Parking
Rental Cars: A rental car is strongly recommended for exploring Kauaʻi's full geographic diversity, including the Na Pali Coast trailheads, Waimea Canyon, and North Shore beaches. Major car rental agencies operate directly out of Līhuʻe Airport (LIH), located just 15 minutes south of the resort. Car-sharing services like Turo are also widely used on the island.
Resort Parking: Complimentary unassigned resort parking is included with your booking at Islander on the Beach.
Walking & Biking (Car-Free Friendly Options)
If you prefer not to drive every day, the resort's location makes walking and cycling effortless:
Coconut Marketplace: Located directly adjacent to the resort. You can walk to restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, island markets, and live Hawaiian entertainment in under 2 minutes.
Ke Ala Hele Makalae (Kauai Coastal Path): The paved multi-use oceanfront path runs right past the resort grounds. You can walk or bike northbound for 2 miles into downtown Kapaʻa for additional dining, grocery stores (Safeway and local natural food markets), and shopping.
Bike Rentals: Bicycle and cruiser rentals are available at several rental shops within walking distance in Kapaʻa.
Airport Shuttles, Rideshares & Public Transit
Rideshares (Uber & Lyft): Uber and Lyft operate throughout Kapaʻa and to/from Līhuʻe Airport (LIH). While rideshare vehicles are available, booking ahead or allowing extra time is recommended due to island demand.
Taxis & Airport Shuttles: Private taxi services and airport shuttle options (such as SpeediShuttle) are available from Līhuʻe Airport and should be reserved in advance.
The Kauai Bus: Public transit via The Kauai Bus has stops located nearby along Kuhio Highway, offering budget-friendly transport between Hanalei on the North Shore and Kekaha on the West Side. (Note: The bus has luggage size restrictions, so it is best suited for day trips rather than airport transfer with large bags).
Driving Times from Islander on the Beach
