Fall and Winter at Lake Shafer

Spend your days exploring the area, fishing, hiking, shopping, enjoying local events—or simply doing absolutely nothing while watching the lake change with the season. Fall is perfect for: • Scenic drives through the countryside and around the lakes • Fishing and enjoying the peaceful fall water • Exploring local parks and nature trails • Morning coffee overlooking the lake • Family games and outdoor time • Cozy evenings inside with friends and family or outside around the fire pit • Watching the leaves change right from the property Whether you're looking for a fall family getaway, a peaceful couples' weekend, a Thanksgiving gathering, a girls' trip, a holiday escape or simply a place to breathe for a few days, fall and early winter are beautiful times to experience Lake Shafer. And there is plenty happening nearby! Monticello's parks have a full lineup of fall programs. Across the river in Delphi and Carroll County, the Do It In Delphi 5K Run/Walk takes place October 10, and the Delphi area continues to offer community activities and entertainment throughout the fall and winter. The Wabash & Erie Canal Park also hosts fall activities and special events, making Delphi a fun day trip from the lake. And don't forget Halloween! Downtown Monticello's Trunk or Treat is scheduled for Saturday, October 31, from 3–5 PM—a fun option for families visiting over Halloween weekend. Turn your lake getaway into a new holiday tradition! Bring your family to the lake for a memorable Thanksgiving or Christmas holiday. Monticello and Carroll County have activities planned throughout the holiday season, including Monticello's Carols, Cocoa & Cookies celebration, which is scheduled for December 5, followed by the Monticello Lighted Christmas Parade at 6 PM. The sparkling parade travels through downtown Monticello and is a wonderful way to kick off the Christmas season. Over in Delphi, Santa on the Square is scheduled for December 12, bringing even more small-town Christmas charm to the area. And after a day of Christmas shopping, sightseeing or holiday events, there's nothing better than coming back to your own cozy lake house. Come for the events. Stay for the lake. The lake may be quieter in the fall—but that's exactly what makes it special. Bringing your own boat? We'd love to have you enjoy the lake! Please note that boats cannot be left tied to our dock due to lake traffic and changing water conditions. Guests should either rent a slip at a local marina or trailer their boat in and out as needed during their stay. *Please note the wood stove does not work.
