Government Camp Log Cabin | Walk to Town, Minutes to Skibowl
This multi-level log cabin sits in Government Camp, Oregon, at the base of Mt. Hood. Walk to the village shops and restaurants, reach Mt. Hood Skibowl in minutes, and drive to Timberline Lodge and Mt. Hood Meadows for more terrain. The cabin has 3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, and sleeps up to 6. Guests must be 21 or older to book. Access note: the hill up to the cabin is steep and can be slippery in winter, so bring a snow-ready vehicle if you are visiting during snow season.
The Home
The pellet stove is available for guests to use, and it is where everyone ends up after a day on the mountain. There are two separate family rooms, so one group can watch a movie downstairs while another reads or plays cards elsewhere. A mini ping pong table gives the group something to compete over between ski days and bike rides. WiFi is included.
The kitchen is well equipped for real cooking. Coffee, tea, a grinder, spices, and cooking oils are already stocked, so you can skip the first grocery run. A washer and dryer are on site, which helps on longer stays and when ski gear needs to dry out.
Sleeping Arrangements
The cabin has 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms, with a maximum occupancy of 6 guests. The bedrooms are spread across the main, lower, and upper levels, so stairs are part of every stay.
- Bedroom 1 (main floor): Queen bed
- Bedroom 2 (lower level): Queen bed
- Bedroom 3 (upper level): King bed
- Main floor: Full sofa bed
- Lower level: Full sofa bed
- Also in the cabin: a toddler bed and a loft sleeping area with no door
The loft has no door, so it works best for kids, teens, or travelers who do not need privacy at night.
The Location
- Government Camp village shops and restaurants: walkable
- Mt. Hood Skibowl: minutes away
- Timberline Lodge: short drive up the mountain
- Mt. Hood Meadows: short drive
- Mirror Lake trailhead and Mt. Hood National Forest trails: close by
- Timothy Lake and Clear Lake: summer swimming, kayaking, and fishing

In summer, the same mountain becomes a destination for mountain biking and hiking.

About the neighborhood
This cabin is in Government Camp, the Mt. Hood village at 3,900 feet where the mountain stops being a backdrop and becomes the whole point of the trip. Downtown Government Camp is a walk away for local restaurants and shops, so dinner out does not require getting back in the car.
In winter, Mt. Hood Skibowl is minutes away, and Timberline Lodge and Mt. Hood Meadows are a short drive in either direction on Highway 26, covering everything from beginner runs to expert terrain. Snowshoeing and sledding are close by when you want a day off the lifts.
When the snow melts, the Mt. Hood National Forest opens up. Mirror Lake, Ramona Falls, and the Timberline Trail are among the most popular hikes in Oregon, and mountain biking is available in the warmer months. Timothy Lake and Clear Lake offer summer swimming, kayaking, and fishing. The town of Sandy, about 30 minutes down the mountain, covers groceries and anything else the village does not. Portland is roughly an hour west.

Getting around
Downtown Government Camp is easy to explore on foot from the cabin, with local restaurants and shops within walking distance. A car is the most convenient way to reach Mt. Hood Skibowl, Timberline Lodge, Mt. Hood Meadows, and the trailheads around Mirror Lake. Highway 26 is the main corridor connecting the village to Sandy, the surrounding Mt. Hood National Forest, and Portland, about an hour west.
Winter driving note: the access road to the cabin is steep and can be slippery in snow season. Arrive in a snow-ready vehicle, and check road conditions and traction requirements before heading up or down the mountain, since they can change quickly at elevation.
For ski days when you would rather leave the car behind, the Mt. Hood Express is a public bus running between Sandy and Timberline Lodge with a stop in Government Camp. The Timberline Resort Shuttle also runs from Summit Pass in Government Camp to Timberline's Wy'East Day Lodge during the winter season. Rideshare availability is limited in the Mt. Hood corridor, so plan on having your own vehicle or using the shuttles.
