Things to Know Before You Arrive • No air conditioning: Like many mountain homes in this region, Pine Croft does not have air conditioning. South Fork's high-elevation climate generally brings cooler evenings, and opening windows can help bring fresh mountain air into the home. • High altitude: South Fork sits at approximately 8,200 feet above sea level. Stay hydrated, take it easy when you first arrive, and allow yourself time to acclimate if traveling from a lower elevation. • Mountain weather: Conditions can change quickly throughout the year. Packing layers and appropriate seasonal footwear is recommended. • Wildlife: Deer, elk, foxes, black bears, moose, and other wildlife may be encountered throughout the region. Please admire wildlife from a safe distance and never feed wild animals. • Winter travel: Snow and ice are common during winter. Four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive with appropriate winter tires or traction devices is strongly recommended, particularly when traveling mountain roads or heading toward Wolf Creek Ski Area. • Internet: WiFi is available throughout the home for streaming, browsing, and remote work.
